About me...

I am a translator by profession and passion!

I was born and raised in a small town near Bonn, Germany, only about an hour from the Dutch border, and enjoyed foreign cultures and languages as my family traveled often and extensively. I had my mind and heart set on an education in languages to become a professional translator long before I entered college.

Between 1986 and 1988 I studied English and Spanish Literature as well as Islamic Sciences/Arabic at the University of Bonn (Germany) and then transferred to the Department 4.6 for Applied Linguistics and Translation/Interpretation at the University of the Saarland at Saarbruecken in order to focus on English and Spanish Translation as well as Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. My technical background and my advanced Latin Proficiency Certificate allow me to not only understand the technical and medical concepts I am translating, they often help me assist my clients in refining their documents even further. I earned my advanced degree (Diplom) in Technical Translation in the spring of 1993.

Without a doubt I love my work as a professional translator because I can help bridge gaps between different cultures and languages and connect people of various backgrounds. Every day I enjoy versatile projects dealing with a multitude of different topics - from IFUs for medical insertion devices to websites for telecommunication companies to online surveys about consumer electronics.

With increasing globalization, the world is indeed getting smaller.
Don't let a language barrier get in the way
when reaching out to your customers!
Let me take care of your project with integrity, attention to detail and professional care - long-term cooperation for long-term success!

After graduating from the University of the Saarland in 1993 I moved to Houston (Texas). I started my career as a free-lance translator focusing mainly on technical and medical translations from English into German. Working in a country where my mother tongue was the foreign language was especially exciting and challenging. Since 1997 I have been living and working in Denver (Colorado).

I am an active member of the American Translators Association (ATA) and ATA-certified for translations from English into German. I served two 2-year terms as Assistant Administrator of the ATA German Language Division (2002-2006). Upon recommendation by a client I joined the Grader pool for ATA Certification Exams from English into German in 2002 and have been serving on the ATA Certification Committee since 2003. I was appointed Deputy Chair of the ATA Certification Committee in May 2005 and then took over as Chair of the ATA Certification Committee in November 2006.

Whereas my travels and academic involvements in the early years put me in touch with the English language, I now stay up-to-date with the linguistic and cultural developments of my native country Germany by visiting on a regular basis as well as by subscribing to German literature, newspapers, list servers and special German broadcasts. In addition, I attend continuing education seminars, conferences and events on a regular basis.

Since starting my career as a translator in 1993, I have completed hundreds of projects and can rely on solid experience in my areas of expertise. For a list of project highlights, please click here.
